About this programme

The degree in Civil Engineering has been structured according to the Bologna Process since the 2006/2007 school year. The curricular plan has a length of 6 semesters in the daytime programmeand 8 semesters in the evening programmewith the total of 180 ECTS credits.

The areas of intervention of the civil engineers graduated by Barreiro School of Technology/ESTBarreiro/IPS are generally the following: Management and Head of Engineering of Construction Sites; Constructions sites Audit; Budgeting; Technical assistance at small and medium-sized construction companies; Support and analysis of construction sites and projects at local government building operations level.

Goals

The degree in Civil Engineering at Barreiro School of Technology seeks to provide graduates with a solid, comprehensive and balanced training in the various areas of intervention of civil engineers enabling the autonomous development of management activities and supervision of construction sites, construction sites audit, drafting and underwriting of projects, intervention in infrastructure systems and technical consulting in accordance with the professional qualification established in Law No. 31/2009.
The undergraduate curriculum emphasizes the laboratory activities developed in the laboratories of Mechanics and Structures, Hydraulics, Construction and Geotechnics materials’ existing at Barreiro School of Technology facilities.

Professional outputs

Among the main professional outputs for Civil Engineering graduates at Barreiro School of Technology are the activities of maintenance, coordination, quality control, planning, audit and management in civil construction companies, in infrastructure companies’ of central and local government agencies and in services provider companies and consultancy services. Barreiro School of Technology has a protocol of cooperation with the Ordem dos Engenheiros Técnicos (English: the Portuguese Order of Technical Engineers)that allow the accomplishment of a professional internship to its graduates (work placement).
